The Age and Antiquity of Natural Basalt Stone
Advent Design International
4/10/2007

At Advent Design we have the unique capability to create a solid stone soaking bath from basalt stone.  Basalt stone can be found all over the world however, to achieve uniform coloration such as fine grained medium toned gray basalt, requires the very careful selection and only a few quarries in the world, in our view, are the right choice for a high quality Advent Design stone tub.

Basalt is igneous rock which is formed when rock or magna cools and solidifies with or without crystallization either below the surface or on the surface.  This magna can be derived from partial melt of preexisting rocks in either the earth's mantel or crust.   Basalt is usually fined grained due to rapid cooling of lava on the earth's surface.

The basalt stone we use at Advent Design to create these luxurious basalt baths in fact is fine grained.  For example, the crustal portions of oceanic tectonic plates are composed predominately of basalt which is produced from upwelling peridotite in the mantel below ocean ridges.  Gaius Plinius Secundus better know as Pliny Velder who lived in 79AD was an ancient author, natural philosopher and military commander of importance who wrote a book named Naturalis Historia and in that book he referred to basalt stone which is said to have had an Ethiopian origin as a word meaning black stone.
